The Downtown Oxford Economic Development Corporation, also known as OxForward, is a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to revitalize and enhance the historical character of the Downtown Business District. OxForward offers incentives for businesses interested in locating within Oxford's Downtown Business District.

Business accountant (Optional)

Make this selection early and choose someone whom you like and trust. An accountant can start the process of applying for federal and state employer identification numbers required for all businesses, as well as provide information on selecting the best Business Entity Requirements for different businesses. . Processing and forms can take several weeks, so you want to start the process early.

City Planning Department

Planning Director Hart can tell you if the business you propose is within the guidelines of the zoning ordinances, and whether any proposed alterations to your building are appropriate. She can also inform you about parking ordinances.

Granville County Planning Department will inspect your facility and advise you of any ways that your building does not meet building code specifications.

City Privilege License

Based on recent NC legislation, as of July 1, 2015, only businesses selling beer or wine (on or off-premise), and taxicabs will be required to obtain a Privilege License and the cost of those fees have remained the same. The full Privilege License Fee Schedule will be updated soon.
This site will assist you with registering your business for NC state sales tax, business withholdings, and business identification (Tax I.D).

This department issues the county privilege license.

Bring your certificate of the assumed business name to this office located in the Granville County Courthouse. The certificate is issued through Vance Granville Community College, (252-492-2061).

City Finance Department

Any business located in the City, contact the Oxford Finance Department in regards to water, sewer, and garbage service.

City Fire Department

Fire Chief Cottrell and the Oxford Fire Department will advise you of the services available to you from the Fire Department, as well as inform you of fire code as it relates to any building alterations.

City Police Department

Police Chief Pat Ford and the Oxford Police Department will advise you of the protection and other services afforded to you by the Oxford Police Department.
Duke Energy Progress is the primary provider of electrical power for the City of Oxford. The business office can put you in contact with a local agent if necessary.

All businesses in the downtown business district have access to natural gas lines and most other areas in the City also have access.

In addition to conventional bank financing, the Kerr-Tar COG maintains a revolving loan fund that offers small businesses financing at very affordable rates. Call the KTRCOG for full details.
